Chanel-ing the surf

After extolling the virtues of how sexy I think surfing is for guys and girls the other week here I started to think about beachy surf decor.
I love the beach. I love to sunbathe. I love the sea, sand and eating ice-creams and I LOVE drinking cocktails or beers watching the sunset.

So we established that I may not know how to surf- although I'll have you know that I did stand up first time while being taught in Australia before gracefully taking a lungful of sea water thank you very much- however a lot of me just loves the idea of owning a surfboard- probably more for what it represents but I would love to have own and own one and touch one and pretend I use it, so I found a few ideas of inspiration for what to actually do with one in the home. . . . .

Hang as a bit of art

Turn into hooks- I like.

Chalkboard

Realistically this chalkboard idea would be the most fun and easiest way to incorporate a surfboard into my home, maybe mount it on the wall and have in the kitchen for shopping lists and reminders

But boy can a girl dream. . . . . . .

Oh and while we're looking at Chanel surfboards why not invest in some of Chanel's other goodies?

Looks like all the ingredients for a true Aussie beach-bum's dream!

A girl's gotta dream!

Amongst my dreams of subway tile, a turquoise kitchen, wood floors, exposed brick walls, giant mirrors and an indoor swing I have another dream for my future house. A designated shoe appreciation cupboard/shelving unit!

I think really any girl would love the idea of this- you're kidding yourself if you don't! Somewhere to show off your amazing shoes? Yes please! I may even buy a pair of Christian Louboutins just to celebrate. . . . . . Nah just kidding I'll just paint the soles of a pair of mine in celebration!

It has backlighting and everything!

I like this one. Can buy an old cupboard from an antiques market and make it look super dooper!

How do you take your coffee?

Ever heard of Hong Yi? No I didn't think so. Check out Her website here

She is an artist, illustrater, architect and photographer from Borneo. My favourite work of her's is the coffee art!
She says ''The portrait was done using coffee cup stains. Quite a tricky medium to use - too much water and the rings wouldn't form easily, very little water and you'd have to be precise with where you place the cup coz the rings would pretty much be permanent.''

She has also painted using a basketball for a brush, used sunflower seeds and chilli paste. Kooky.

I think her coffee art is pretty awesome. Even the photos of it in progress are great. It has a really calming, serene, whimsical (yes, whimsical) feel to it. Enjoy!

Dreaming my days away

You know those times where you just dream of being somewhere else? Maybe somewhere you've been before, maybe somewhere that is a mix of all your favourite places or maybe somewhere that only exists in your dreams. Somewhere where the sun is shining, a cool breeze is flowing through the trees, people are happy and the air smells of summer?!
Well I'm having those times a LOT at the moment.

Having spent all of last Summer in Europe I have had a few withdrawl symptoms which mostly are down to amazing food, good atmosphere and beautiful weather- which my life is lacking in a little at the moment.
Along with having spent nearly every summer holiday growing up in France I get times where all I want to do is sit in a pretty cobble street courtyard in France with flowers, a church, a lady in fur with a poodle walking by and most importantly some great food.
The view from the windows at work are also looking onto a little courtyard cafe which in the sunshine is really inticing but it definitely isn't the same and is always lacking in French appeal, bicycles, sailor stripes and deck shoes.
Luckily I am off to France for a long weekend next weekend with some of my bestests so I will be able to settle my dreams for a while!

(I'm also trying to go easy on the carbs but they just come back to haunt me) so amongst my cobble streets I am picturing croissants, pain au chocolat and patisseries along with a big hot chocolate. Then wine and seafood for dinner of course!

Warm with lots of melted butter and jam. YUM

Sadly I only have one and not a pair- Ok this is getting weird now.

I went to a big shop called Home Sense recently where they have a load of stuff at discounted prices- I think they are chained with TK MAXX but they have some great stuff!

I went there just to find a picture frame and came away with a few extras that I couldn't resist. I just love stuff!
It was a shop from my dreams and I felt my temperature rising the more I looked around and the more I wanted to buy then and there but I kind of need a house first so I resisted. I'm not so sure I should buy a 6ft tall mirror yet when I have no house to decorate.

But I did spot this little treasure amongst some of the more garish items of decor and knew I had to have it!

 

Owls are pretty big on the blogging circuit if you are thinking it's a little weird! I just don't know what I'm going to use it for yet but I found a few images of inspiration to get me going-

For my paint brushes?

Stationary?

Flowers?

Even prettier flower?

A lamp?! Not convinced by my electrical skills for that one but it looks pretty cool!

I think I like it as a vase, I like the idea of some really vibrant flowers against the white. What do you reckon?!
